Elaine

Dr Elaine Mossman has accumulated over 25 years of research and evaluation experience. Since 2011 she has worked as a private research and evaluation consultant. Prior to this, she has held several university positions in England and New Zealand, including six years as a senior research fellow at Victoria University’s Crime and Justice Research Centre. She remains an adjunct research fellow to the Victoria University’s Institute of Criminology.

Areas of expertise – Elaine has conducted research across a wide range of disciplines including psychology, health and education, but has developed particular expertise in the area of criminal justice (e.g. family violence, sexual violence, victims of crime, young and adult offenders).

Research and evaluation skills – Elaine has extensive experience conducting research and evaluation for the public sector including evaluation frameworks, formative and outcome evaluations, research to validate risk assessment tools, and literature reviews. She has also supported and worked alongside a number of community sector organisations. Elaine specialises in the design and implementation of mixed-methodology evaluation research.  She has considerable experience in conducting and analysing qualitative interviews and in the collection and statistical analysis of quantitative data. She has taught research methods and statistics up to a graduate level, and continues to be approached for guest lecturing in these areas.

Ethical practice – Elaine is a member, and abides by the ethical guidelines of the following professional bodies: the Australasian Evaluation Society (AES) and the Aotearoa New Zealand Evaluation Association (ANZEA). All research proposals involving human subjects are scrutinised for adherence to ethical processes and procedures. This includes procedures for storing and maintaining the confidentiality of information, fully informing those being asked to take part in the research, and obtaining appropriate consents.

Qualifications – Elaine holds a PhD on adolescent mental health from the University of Canterbury, an MA from the University of Victoria in Canada and a Bachelor of Science (1st Class Honours) from Brunel University in London, UK.
